2002 Education Design Showcase Award: Carnage MiddleCarnage Middle School addition and renovations project, designed by Brown Jurkowski Architectural Collaboratives (BJAC) received the 2002 Education Design Showcase award in Recognition for Outstanding Architecture and Design in Education by School Planning and Management magazine. The project team, consisting of Leonard King - Principal, Keith Giamportone - Architect, Larry Sherrill - Planner, and William Hartley - Project Manager, will be present to receive the honor.

Citizens who signed up to address the board during public hearing will be called on in priority order-first for items on the agenda and then for items not on the agenda. Each individual speaker will be allowed three minutes for remarks. Issues or concerns involving personnel matters are not appropriate for this public comment setting. 1. Amendment To Joint Use Agreement: Rolesville Elementary And Town of Rolesville Community ParkOfficials with the Town of Rolesville request an amendment to a Joint Use Agreement dated February 14, 1992, providing for the joint use of school facilities and parkland owned by the Town of Rolesville. The request provides for the release of 3,250 square feet of parkland owned by the Town from the Joint Use Agreement to allow for the construction of road improvements to serve a major new subdivision at the back of the school and town park. Fiscal Implications - None. Recommendation for Action - Staff requests Board approval to amend a Joint Use Agreement dated February 14, 1992, between the Board and the Town of Rolesville releasing 3,250 square feet of parkland from the Joint Use Agreement to allow for road construction.2. Building Continuation: PLAN 2004PLAN 2000 includes $20,902,153 in start up funds for the next building program. In order to proceed with the designer selection process in a timely manner, approval of the attached list of start-up projects is requested. Upon completion of the pre-selection process, recommendations will be presented to the Board. Fiscal Implications - None at this time. Recommendation for Action - Board approval is requested.3. Design Consultant Agreement: Building Assessment And Equipment InventoryNegotiations have been completed with Carter & Burgess, Inc., for the 2002 Building Assessment and Equipment Inventory. The form of agreement is the standard form approved by the board attorney. Fiscal Implications - Funding is available from the total project budget of $1,300,000, as provided from saving in the Phases IIIB Long Range Building Program. Schematic Design: Kingswood ElementaryStaff will present the schematic design documents prepared by Davis Kane Architects, P.A., for the construction of Kingswood Elementary addition and renovations. Fiscal Implications - Funding is available from the total project budget of $8,235,195, as provided in the PLAN 2000 School Building Program. Recommendation for Action - Board approval is requested. PROGRAM
1. Results of SAT for Class of 2002SAT results are being released nationwide on August 27, 2002. This presentation will summarize results for WCPSS students and compare local results to state and national results. SAT information is embargoes until August 27, and therefore no information is available to attach to this précis. There are no fiscal implications. This item is presented as information only.2. Update on NCWise ImplementationWCPSS has been participating in the initial pilot phase of NCWise and has been providing feedback to DPI so that they are aware of the unique needs of our district. Training of data managers and backups for each school has begun and hardware has been inventoried to assure compatibility with required standards. A PowerPoint presentation will be given to provide a more thorough overview of NCWise and an update on the progress of implementation. There are no fiscal implications.
