Citizens who have signed up to address the Board during public comment will have a total of 30 minutes to speak. Time will be alternated between those in favor of ending the Broughton IB Program and those against ending the Broughton IB Program. ACTION ITEMS
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
1. BROUGHTON IB MAGNET HIGH SCHOOL RECOMMENDATION
On December 2nd, the Board of Education voted to schedule a special Board meeting on December 10th to reconsider the International Baccalaureate Magnet Program from Broughton High School and the possible initiation of the program to another high school. Staff will present information about the potential process for ending the Broughton IB program and building a new IB program at another school. Fiscal Implications: Funds have already been designated for planning of a new secondary magnet program. Recommendation for Action: Staff requests that a decision be made about the status of Broughton's IB program. If the program is removed, staff requests that the Board designate one high school to serve as a magnet school for the IB Middle Years Program and the IB Diploma Program.FACILITIES
1. IMPACT OF POTENTIAL REMOVAL OF IB PROGRAM AT BROUGHTON
ON DRAFT STUDENT ASSIGNMENT PLAN AND RECOMMENDATION
OF POTENTIAL SITES FOR NEW IB PROGRAM
On December 2nd, the Board of Education voted to schedule a special Board meeting on December 10th to reconsider the International Baccalaureate Magnet Program from Broughton High School and the possible initiation of the program to another high school. The Board requested that staff utilize the objectives that have been established for the magnet program to analyze the potential impact of removing the IB program upon existing high schools. If the decision is made to remove the program at Broughton, staff will recommend the site that they believe is the best location for the program and present the data used to develop the recommendation. Fiscal Implications: Funds have already been designated for planning of a new secondary magnet program. Recommendation for Action: If the program at Broughton is removed, staff requests that the Board designate one high school to serve as a magnet school for the IB Middle Years Program and the IB Diploma Program.ADJOURNMENT
