1. 2008-2009 COUNTY APPROPRIATION AND BOARD'S PLAN FOR STUDENT SUCCESS
The Board of County Commissioners approved $15.5 Million of additional funding for the Wake CountyPublic School System for Fiscal Year 2008-2009. An additional $3 Million has been approved and
reserved for growth. The 2008-2009 Board's Plan for Student Success requires additional funding of $54.7
Million. The Board of Education will consider budget reduction options as they work to close the funding
gap. Fiscal Implications: On June 17th, the Board of Education adopted an Interim Budget Resolution
allowing the system to continue to function in the new fiscal year beginning July 1, 2008. The Board of
Education must resolve the funding gap and adopt a Balance Budget Resolution in a timely manner.
Recommendation for Action: Work to adopt a Balance Budget Resolution for Fiscal Year 2008-2009.
