OPEN SESSION

**A Special Called Board Meeting - Closed Session will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Board Conference Room. The Board will recess at 2:00 p.m. for a Work Session and reconvene at 4:30 for the continuation of the Special Called Board Meeting and for Recognitions.

5. RE-DISTRICTING PLAN

On Tuesday, May 10, 2011, the Wake County Board of Education held a Public Hearing related to
the Re-Districting Plan. The Board discussed the input received at the May 17, 2011 Board of
Education Work Session. Fiscal Implications: None at this time. Recommendation for Action: The
next step is for the Board to approve a Re-Districting Plan.

6. REDUCTION IN FORCE, CENTRAL SERVICES BASED SECRETARIAL & SCHOOL

CLERICAL POSITIONS

As a result of the economic downturn, the Wake County Public School System has faced significant
budget reductions from the period beginning December 2008 through present. Significant additional
budget reductions will continue into the 2011-12 fiscal year. Based upon the 2011-12 budget, a
recommendation for a reduction of Central Services based Secretarial and School based Clerical
positions is being made per Board Policy 4430. Fiscal Implications: A reduction in salary and
benefits costs for the WCPSS. Recommendation for Action: Board approval for authority of
reduction in force is requested.

RECOGNITION- 5:30 P.M.

7. EMPLOYEE EXCELLENCE AWARD

Three (3) employees were nominated for this month's Employee Excellence Award. Fiscal
Implications: The cost of the awards for this presentation was $91. Funds from the Human
Resources Department's supplies budget was used to cover this cost. Recommendation for Action:
None.

8. SPOTLIGHT ON STUDENTS

Twenty-five students will recognized as Spotlight on Students award winners at 6:00 p.m. Sixteen
students will be recognized as Spotlight on Students award winners at 7:00 p.m. Recommendation
for Action: None.
